Dear Ray: Valley Railroad uses Shell Morlina 220 (and has for many years). That being said, folks have used all sorts of oils successfully, in compressors that are well maintained (read don't run hot) with good rings, proper check valve lift, check valves that don't leak. Hot compressors mean hot oil that gets gummy and carbons up the compressor, and coats the internals of the air brake valves with a varnish like substance. Good luck. J.David P.S. We once bought a synthetic oil that worked great but smelled awful as it was exhausted out the H-6 valve when the brakes were released. We ended up piping the exhaust out the floor of the cab (but you could still smell it). JDC |

Estrolene. It really keeps the lines clean, however, if your lines are dirty to begin with, the Estrolene will loosen all that gunk rather quickly!! |

Where do you purchase Estrolene from and what weight do you use (if there is a choice)? |

We always had excellent luck with Interlube Carbonless Air Oil. We also used Interlube Steam Cylinder Oil with super results. |

Is there a product number or product code number for the interlube air oil? Have you experienced gasket failures from using the interlube air oil? We have used Anderal which is a good oil but attacks certain synthetic gasket materials. I have heard that Estrolene will do the same. |

If memory serves, it's calle #5 Carbonless Air Oil. I think after a few years, we did have a gasket kind of swell up, but it took a long time. We had put it in a jar full of the air oil and closed it up and monitored it every so often. Don't know about the Anderoil. |
