| Post subject: | Harsco track geometry car |
SCRM has been offered a self-propelled track geometry inspection car by Harsco (formerly Tamper). The catch is, we have to move it from the ex-Tamper plant in Columbia. After moving that crane, we've pretty well used up our favors for a while. I have a feeling we'll decline the offer, in fact I've recommended that we do just that. At least two other members of the Collections Committee agree with me (there are seven people on the committee, I don't know how the other members feel yet). If Harsco would include the move, I'd be in favor of accepting it, but they won't. This thing is a boxy-looking, two-axle vehicle with controls on both ends. I've seen these vehicles before, but I don't know much about them. It's similar to the Plasser thingy that Bachman has the HO scale model of, except this car is more boxy and the cab ends slope out instead of back. It's occurred to me that the car would make a fair doodlebug, although I have my doubts about the smoothness of the ride. Anybody know any more about these things, and this one in particular? It's located at the former Tamper plant in Columbia. |
