Anyone know what the heritage of the GP30 or its plans are? http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=144928 Also, 4449 was built with a system for cooling her tires with water. Does anyone know if this is intact, or even still used? Many thanks! Joshua |

Never underestimate the power of a well-crafted Google search. "Puget Sound & Pacific 3005 is an EMD GP30 and was one of the first locomotives to serve the line. This unit was built in October, 1962 for the Baltimore & Ohio. Baltimore and Ohio 6944 is at the B&O Railroad Museum in Baltimore. Canadian Pacific 5000 went to the Alberta Railway Museum in Edmonton. Conrail 2233 (ex PRR) is in Strasburg, PA. Denver and Rio Grande Western 3011 is at the Colorado Railroad Museum. Louisville and Nashville 1030 is now Southern Appalachia Railway Museum 3059. New York, Chicago and St. Louis 900 went to the Mad River and Nickel Plate Museum in Bellevue, Ohio. The Roanoke Chapter of the NRHS has Norfolk and Western 522. Reading 5513 was the first production GP30 and is preserved by the Reading Company T&HS. SSW 5006 is preserved at the Arkansas Railway Museum in Pine Bluff. Soo Line 700 was donated by the Canadian National Railway to Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, Superior. Canadian National Railway donated Soo Line GP30 703 to the Colfax Railroad Museum in Wisconsin. Southern Railway 2594 is preserved at the Southeastern Railway Museum Southern 2601 is preserved at the North Carolina Transportation Museum The Nevada State Railroad Museum has Union Pacific 844. Union Pacific 849 is now with the Feather River Rail Society. Wisconsin Central (Soo Line) 715 is at the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay. |

Last time I looked, BNSF was still using ex-ATSF GP30's in daily service, still in the later blue-and-yellow paint job. I've seen at least six different road numbers in the past year. No doubt they've had some upgrades since 1962. |

I regularly see GP-30's on CSX passing through Silver Spring, MD, although they are now slugs. |
