I just posted three reviews of a new steam locomotive book "The Fire Burns Much Better" by Jos Koopmans (PhD) to my website.

Dr. Koopmans (from the Netherlands) is a regular contributor to the Yahoo "steam_tech" group, and recently was awarded his doctorate in engineering based on his work on steam locomotive exhausts. The information collected for his PhD thesis was used as the basis of his book, which details ~200 years of steam locomotive exhaust design. The book also includes Dr. Koopmans' own theory to describe steam locomotive exhaust function. An appendix in the book includes a suggested step-by-step method for improving existing locomotive exhausts which may be of interest to tourist steam operations.

The book includes a great deal of historical information as well as detailed technical data.
