I saw where Trains Unlimited Tours just completed a tour to China and entitled it Final Steam or something along those lines. Is ANYONE offering or going to be offering trips to China this year or next? I understand that I am too late to see steam on the Jing Ping Pass.

I would not mind going to the former Soviet Union or perhaps down under to see the Garratts, etc. But China has had my attention recently.

I also would like to find a trip that is about 2 weeks or so. I have e-mailed Ron McElrath from Revelation Video with no response. I know he has gone on several of these trips and sells video's of them, but I need info.

There is still a lot of steam in China. I was just at Pingdingshan last month and lots of JS types were running. QJ's are harder and harder to find. Shibanxi is a true narrow gauge gem and will probably be steam for a time to come. You can do it on your own pretty easy if you are up for a little adventure. Contact me via PM if you want more details.

Maybe it won't work out. But maybe seeing if it does will be the best adventure ever.

Tom,

I will be contacting you later. I work night shift and it is difficult for me to sit down and hammer out a letter sometimes.

Check out the June article at the link below.

Looks like there are still things to see.

Mark,

Ron McElrath is a very nice and helpful fella, and he most likely is leading another tour at the moment if he didn't answer your inquiry. He is planning on taking another group to China in October. Also, my friend Xuejun Liu is planning a group tour in September, details for this can be found on his website: http://www.jun-railjourney.com

It is also quite true that you can go it alone, but you'll most likely want to get all the advance information you can from these same folks.
