INDRR E9 100 (ex Milw.) was spotted on a wb BNSF freight yesterday
going thru E. Dubuque Ill. Info is from another list but no idea at
this point as to it's destination. Pix can be found @
www.rrpicturearchives.com. Looks in rather good external condition.
Loco was used in the early 90's for dinner train service from Indy -
Bargersville Ind. I got shots of it back in 7/93 @ the INDRR yd. It was
later sold & iirc, was stored someplace in the Chi. area.

First, I presume he means http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/. The .com site looks like a poacher.

Second, Indiana 100 is/was one of the quintet, along with the four ex-PRR and IC E8's now in Ohio, that is/was owned by the same partnership in the Chicago area. I seem to recall that the IRR loco was either leased to the Indiana Ry. Museum or acquired from them. The last time I saw it was in storage over along the South Chicago waterfront along with privately-purchased remnants of the C&NW bilevel fleet a couple of years ago; they had formerly been stored in the EJ&E shops at Joliet before the roof started collapsing there (and I recall seeing some specific damage to the E9).

I believe this partnership was somehow getting involved with the Northstar commuter operation in Minneapolis; I had heard speculation that the E9 might have been sent up as a demo locomotive pending shipment of F40s. Not likely, but who knows?

You know, it occurs to me that there might, in a time of higher fuel prices, actually be an economic benefit to running older double-engine E8/E9's with HEP generators rather than those howl-at-Run-8-to-keep-the-HEP-charged F40's. Yeah, there's 567 parts availability to fret about, but the longevity of E8's had to do with their lower power ratings on the two engines. Any thoughts? Maybe the 645-equipped BN E8/E9's might be desirable again?

The E9A, which is being shipped as MTDX 100, is on it's way to the Golden Pacific Railroad in Tacoma, Washington.

The locomotive was built for the Milwaukee Road and was originally numbered 36A.

The Golden Pacific Railroad plans to repaint the locomotive in an original Milwaukee Road paint scheme shortly after it arrives in Tacoma.

The locomotive is in excellent condition and just needs an few things wrapped up and finished once it arrives in Tacoma.

As an aside, I seem to recall that a couple of the last MILW E8/E9's were originally built with HEP generators and not steam generators, for Chicago commuter service. Am I correct, and is this one of them?

Yep, 36A was one of the original Milwaukee Road E units to have HEP.
