The Siouxland Historical Railroad Association will hold its first Heritage RailWalk 2006 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday at the Milwaukee Railroad Shops Historic District, 3400 Sioux River Road. Guided walking tours are scheduled at 10 and 11 in the morning and 1:30 and 2:30 in the afternoon.

They have abandoned their attempt to return GN 4-6-2 1355 to running order, citing numerous problems, and will reassemble it for static display.

I'm sorry to hear this news, as I was hoping the group would succeed. I seem to remember that Gary Bensman was involved with this project for a time.

I do know that this was one very worn locomotive, and this group has been working on it for a long time. That combination can wear the best of us out.
