There is some interesting news from Colorado The Rocky Mountain Railroad Club has transferred ownership of the Rio Grande Southern (RGS) #20, (4-6-0, Schnectady 1899 for the Florance and Cripple Creek) RGS business car "Rico" (No. 021) (Built as a postal car for the D&RG in 1882 and many times rebuilt for new uses), and D&RGW narrow gauge caboose 0578 to the Colorado Railroad Historical Foundation, aka the Colorado Railroad Museum effective May 31, 2006. (confirmed in the Rocky Mt RR Club newsletter, carried on their web site) Additionally, several email groups are carrying the following (so far unconfirmed) additional information from Jimmy A Blouch, President, Rocky Mountain Railroad Club. “Today I received a telephone call from that organization informing me that a benefactor has provided funds for the restoration of #20 to operating condition. In addition funds are to go to the endowment fund for continued operation of #20 after restoration. A stipulation is that the work be done at Strasburg, Pennsylvania.” The 20 is a beautiful locomotive, the Colorado Railroad Museum has for some years made great strides, building a round house to provide inside storage and work space for their locomotives, and have sent 2-8-0 346 to Strasburg for significant work. |
