My son in law sent me some images from his cell phone camera, of an 0-6-0 steam switcher, numbered 2, appearing in very rusty condition, and half assembled, in Peabody, Mass. The locomotive is surrounded by a pile of rusty parts and pieces, but appears to be on a new section of panel track, with new ballast. Is the the long forgotten tank locomotive from Steamtown, that was left in some auto junkyard for years? The pictures did not include what appeaered to be a saddle tank. Can anyone provide more light on this new display?

Richard, YES! And it happened somewhat by accident. The city of Peabody Massachusetts purchased the former junkyard property in Newbury, MA (home to the by now famous "junkyard Porter," Simons Wrecking #2) to use for storage. During a walkthrough of the property the head of the Peabody Dept of Public Works, who also happens to be a fan noticed what he thought was a steam locomotive...

The city was already in the process of creating a rail-trail on a section of abandoned B&M ROW and in fact has already been granted the state/federal funds to do so.

The plan is to cosmetically restore the engine along with a caboose. Hats-off to Mr. Richard Carnevale for finally getting the old Porter out of the junkyard!

Stephen: I didn't see the saddle tank in the junkpile, but hopefully, that will be added to authenticate the locomotive. I'm glad the old girl got out of limbo and finally has a home. Maybe someday she'll run again.
