Like that MP 2-8-0 in Illinois, they only saved the front of this 2-6-2 in the former USSR:

Forgive my ignorance, but what MP 2-8-0 in Illinois, and where?

In regards to the former USSR, there are at least six steam locomotive "fronts" preserved in like manner, maybe more. Also DB 2-10-0 number 50.0006 has been preserved in like manner; I believe at an engine shed in Halle, Sachsen-Anhalt?, Germany:

Yes, lots of neat stuff. Some pictures of locomotives in the former strategic reserves, US built Russian Decapods, etc.
