As fate would have it I am about to find my self with the chance to work on an 80 ton GE center cab. (life after leaving a steam railroad only gets worse not better....) I am at a loss for technical info on this beast. So far all I've found is an operators manual in a library on the west coast. (and they don't even loan matterials, I'd have to go there to photo copy it) Even Ebay has failed me at the moment. Does any one have any information out there? Even basic stats would help! But I'd really like an operators manual, plus some wiring digrams etc. Thanks! |

Condolences Ben. I have in my stacks maintenence manuals for the Alco / GE 70 ton end cab, and 44 ton GE centercab (from the Laurinburg and Southern, none the less). If either of these will help you, you are certainly most welcome to borrow and copy them. dave |

Two suggestions: I don't know who maintains the Strasburg's GE, but try them. Also, John Hammond was the diesel guru at the Georgetown Loop. I don't know if he's working at the Royal Gorge these days, but try contacting him via their offices. Someone there will know how to find him. JAC |

It would help if we knew what generation of GE 80-tonner senter-cab you're dealing with. Some were equipped with Cummins NHIBS 275-hp engines (four doors per side) and the longer post-WWII locos with five doors per hood side). On the other hand, about the only difference between GE's 65-tonners and 80-tonners were either frame thickness or ballast, so try finding a 65-tonner manual just in case. |

Hi - Looking for a drawing of GE 30T (30") Center Cabs - anyone seen one? Lihue Plantation had four of them that were sold to Cuba. At least two are still there. txs |

We have two GE 80 ton locomotives here at the New Hope Valley Railway in Bonsal, NC (just outside of Raleigh), and since you appear to be in Staunton, VA, you are not all that far away from paying us a visit. Contact us offline (nhvry@mindspring.com), and I am reasonably sure we can help somehow. |

I have a maintenance manual for the GE centercabs that I acquired years ago from the Logan Corporation. They are the company that provides the GE parts for these locomotives to the shortlines and such. The manual was provided free of charge at the time. I'm not sure if it is still available or not. You can give them a call and find out. The number is 1-800-669-1967. It covers everything but the diesel engines. If it is no longer available, contact me and we can talk about getting you a copy of mine. Manuals for the engines might be available from Cummins. Wiring diagrams are sometimes locomotive specific.
