Just wondering if anyone out there knows what the current status and ownership of ex-Canadian Pacific 4-6-2's 1238 & 1286 would be. Are they in operation, or are they stored outdoors to the elements, slowly disintegrating?? Ken Jones Jr. Niagara Falls Railway Museum http://www.nfrm.ca |

Ken, They are still owned by the Showalter family. They are stored in Verona, Va. on the Shenandoah Valley RR. They are under tarps, and looked good the last time I was by there, about a month ago. Previous threads here have discussed their mechanical condition. Regards, |

They remain owned by Jack Showalter who for many years tried to get CSX let him run excursions on the Mountain Div. now leased to the Buckingham Branch RR. He has been trying to sell them for years. I'm told his asking price for the 2 Pacifics plus the 7 or 8 coaches is $1.1 million. I'm not at all sure if the price is accurate. He's in the phone book I believe in Charlottesville, Va. I know about 10-12 yrs ago, there was also a group here in Southern Ontario, that wanted to bring the 2 engines back to Canada, and run them under the name of the Brantford & Waterford Railway. However, the one big flaw in this plan was the fact that much of the track was no longer in place. They said that they actually bought the units, (which i question) but it didn't go anywhere, and the engines stayed in the US. Ken Jones Jr. Niagara Falls Railway Museum http://www.nfrm.ca |
