I passed this display last Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday while requalifying between New Orleans and Jackson, MS, for hurricane evacuation trains (God forbid) and the locomotive has lost the "black-face" on the smokebox front. Only the painted rods and white tires slightly detract from a very nice display. The jacketing was replaced on the boiler which really adds to the cosmetic appearance of the 2542. Has the mechanical condition of this locomotive ever been assessed? Couple her to one of the remaining 2600 tenders in Rockford, IL, and you'd have one heck of a machine.

The freight car behind the loco appears to be the all-aluminum reefer the IC biult about 1946 or so-- a rather interesting car, constructed at Mc Comb shops, as I recall. It's a bit more unusual than just an ordinary boxcar on display ("not that there's anything wrong with that").

Good looking engine and a nicely-done display.
