For those who only occasionally jump over to RailSwap to see what nice tidbits of railroad hardware might be available, apparently there has been some misuse of the free ad posting. The following notice was posted early this morning:

This is a warning...

Due to recent abuse of the site, namely the posting of fake ads critical of a particular railroad operator, the site has been suspended. If you want Rail Swap back, I suggest you spread the word that in your opinion, anyone who misuses the site is a total jackxxx (my edit). Keep the stupidity for the foamer forums, or Rail Swap will go away permanently. You have been warned.

Note: the IP address of the person who posted the fake ads is recorded. Don't think you are actually anonymous.

This is unfortunate, and I hope it is a temporary situation. I hope that we can "police our own" to stop this sort of abuse by persons with "a chip on their shoulder", if that's what it was. I would really hate to see this web site go away.

As I drop down the favorites list, I always stop to see if there is something we have that someone might need and visa versa. Surprised to read the warning. I didn't see the particular ads but I can imagine what it said. Scoundrel!

Later!

Railswap is one of the valuable info sites on the net. I generally check it twice a day through the week (while i check RYPN many times a day 7 days a week) I know it has helped preservationists, and the regular railroad world to connect with car/loco parts, complete equipment, etc. It would be a shame to loose a valuable site to something as stupid as spam.

For their own sake, I hope that they put the site back on line soon. Otherwise those looking to sell or buy will quickly go to other sources (RYPN classifieds, as well as those of Trains, Railway Age, Progressive Railroading, and to private brokers) - - atomizing the gathering of interesting parties that made that site work to begin with.

At the very least, I hope that they re-open the ads (even in a locked state) I have been refering people there on a regular basis recently - and having lost that ability helps no-one.

RailSwap has returned!

Let's hope the reason for suspending the site will no longer be a problem.
