What an awesome Mega Movers on the History channel last night! They moved the Morton Washington rail station one mile down the track (not via the track). Then two locos, a 2-10-4 AT&SF and what looked like a 2-10-something from the Southern Pacific. Both locos were in Texas. They moved the AT&SF via shoo fly rail the block or two it had to go and that included two 90 degree turns where they pinwheeled the track with the loco on it! The SP was lifted by hydraulic pumps that could lift 27' with beams between the tops over the loco and slings under the loco. Then a huge multiwheel trailer was rolled in and the loco lowered. They reversed the process to get it down on it's new rail. A really interesting show. I think they rerun it on Thursday night. Later! Mr. Ed |
