This is a great little railroad operation. I haven't been there in years and only had about an hour "allowance" to visit. The linked photo shows the Sweedish engine on a turntable, but a visit to the site has before and after photos showing the abscence of turntable, and states it was removed in 2005. What's the story? Anyone know the answer to that and perhaps a recent history of the operation - I thought I read the line or perhaps a line near it, or the owner had shut down for some reason. /Mitch |

The engine is posed on the turntable at Unity. I believe you are viewing the turntable that was in Belfast. |

What are the details of this operation? Is it still running? The websites I've found on the line are confusing, talking about stuff being abandoned like the turntable and yard in Belfast, but also about a volunteer group preserving the line. Will there be any operations the week after Labor Day, when I'll be in that area? |

Matt: You need to visit the Unity, Maine station. There is nothing -zip-zilch- left in Belfast, other than a single wooden boxcar in dubious condition. All the goodies are located in Unity. Call ahead and see if they'll give you a tour of the shop. I have not seen it this year, but I am told the Swedish 4-6-0 is running, at least on weekends. They operate GE 70ton Diesels and an ex-B&M Budd RDC. This operation has lost a great deal of its forward momentum over the last few years, inspite of advertising. |
