I am looking for photos of similar Pullmans: 10sec,1dr,2cpt --- 11/12/1911, plan 2585, lot 3942. TVRM's Southern coach 1037 was built as "Hazen" in this production run and I'd like to illustrate the original configuration both inside and out. Can anyone help? Try the Smithsonian collection of Pullman builder's photos. It's been a while since I've obtained photos. The catalog information would come from the land transportation department and then you order through photographic services. Some other views not obtained by the Smithsonian found their way into the collection of the California State Railroad Museum. I recall once asking Jack White and Art Dubin during a R&LHS pre-banquet reception about Smithsonian collection. The selection process was to try to have an interior and an exterior from each car photographed and maybe take more if there were reasons to do so. Thus the CSRM collection augments the Smithsonian collection. I've got catalogs at home which maybe I can check this evening. |

Probably no photos, but I assume one resource you have used is the Pullman Library at the Illinois Railway Museum, Ted Anderson, curator. They have plans, and car details for most such equipment, charges are very modest for copies of the tracings. Pullman Library, IRM, Box 427, Union, IL 60180. Bob Kutella |

Here is some information: At Smithsonian: SOMENA Lot 3942 1911 Exterior Neg No. 14368 SOMENA Lot 3942 1911 Interior Neg No. 14370 Price for 8x10 photographic print is $25. Other formats are available. Use this link for more information about Smithsonian photos: http://photos.si.edu/policies.html Do not see any thing is the CSRM list for this lot number or an adjacent negative number. There are probably other 10-1-2 photographs in the collections. Suggest you contact the institutions regarding obtaining lists of the available photographs. |

Thanks for the help/suggestions, guys. I still have to think that someone out there has what I'm looking for and can quickly scan for email. The photos will be used in TVRM's Smoke & Cinders newsletter with appropriate credit given. Line from Ferris Bueller's Day Off: "Anyone? ....... Anyone?" |

One suggestion - contact Nancy Bartol, Kalmbach's librarian. They must have a drawer full of passenger car photos. I'd bet lunch that they've got generic photos of a Pullman section sleeper, and the bog-standard 12-1 would look pretty similar on the outside if you can't find anything else. The first exterior photograph is a 10 section lounge (note only 1 vestibule). The second is a 12-1. A 10-1-2 was similar but had an additional section module and smaller washrooms. For an exterior photograph and an cutaway interior drawing of a later (1 foot longer) 10-1-2, see page 276 of John White's "The American Railroad Passenger Car", figures 3.67 and 3.68. |
