Recently saw some photos of a Detroit & Mackinac Railway conversion of some Pullman Troop Sleepers. These cars were numbered 202 and 203 (there may have been others I guess) and had the side door plated over, a baggage car door added on one end and steps and platforms put in to both ends. Not sure if these were used as cabooses, or in passenger train service as combines. My question is, are these cars still in existance? Perhaps in a rail museum somewhere?

Thanks.

Hi Les,

There is/was a D&M troop sleeper conversion caboose for sale in Alpena, MI. I don't know the number or have any contact information.

D&M 201 was also a troop sleeper conversion.

There is one in rather good condition at the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, MI along with quite a bit of other D&M stuff.

Right now it houses a large deisel generator and a large fuel tank which they are trying to get rid of (I believe, dont quote me on it, but if anybody is interested, give them a call)

Besides the generator and tank, I personally think it has a very nice interior.

I will post pictures later once I figure out what happened to my photoshop cs2 that pooped out on me the other day.

Thanks for the info. Hope you can eventually post your photos. Not quite sure what they are trying to get rid of though; the diesel generator, the large fuel tank or the car itself?
