RGS 20 to Strasburg?

Been working a lot and missing out, but what's this about RGS 4-6-0 20 being trucked to Strasburg? I couldn't find much about it on the NGDF, except the truck had trouble. Is is going to Pennsylvania or eastern Colorado? Is this for real or have I been up for too many hours without sleep?

Bob, the RGS 20 has been the subject of posts on NGDF documenting the arrangement for the engine to be sent to the Strasburg Rail Road in Pennsylvania for evaluation and possible return to operating condition.

As of today, the engine is in route, but has not arrived at the Strasburg.

I believe someone made a sizeable personal donation or bequest with the monies earmarked for 20's operable restoration.

EDIT- Just found this.
"The Rocky Mountain Railroad Club transferred ownership of the RGS #20, RGS business car "Rico" and D&RGW narrow gauge caboose 0578 to the Colorado Railroad Historical Foundation (aka the Colorado Railroad Museum) effective May 31, 2006. The club president received a telephone call from that Foundation informing him that a benefactor has provided funds for the restoration of #20 to operating condition. In addition, funds are to go to the endowment fund for continued operation of #20 after restoration. A stipulation is that the work be done at Strasburg, PA. Dave Schaaf says that it looks like the track crew at the Museum has already begun work to reconnect 20's display track to the live track at CRRM. The plan is to have the engine shipped to Pennsylvania in the next few weeks."

Maybe it's time for our friend at Strasburg to lay a 3rd rail for narrow gauge test runs!

They already have one in their shop, and out of the door for a bit.

It would be more fun to send her a couple of hours west and run her out of Orbisonia for a test run. Those Hawaii bound 2-4-2's (now 2-4-0's)were tested at EBT back in the 60's.

Perhaps John Craft could organize a photographer's special. I remember that EBT had a couple of 10 wheelers. It would be a one time only chance to recreate a n EBT passenger train pulled by a 4-6-0 properly renumbered for the occasion.

Cool idea. Me thinks the EBT had 3 ten wheelers, but all Baldwins. #20 is a Schnectady gal.

Of course, it would be nice to see her "test" right here in Monmouth County, NJ. Whaddaya say Pine Creek boys?

Based on what I've heard, not all of no. 20 are being shipped, just the parts that need work. Volunteers at Golden did quite a bit of disassembly, and will do the reassembly when the boiler and tender(s) return. (This is also how no. 346 came to Strasburg.)

I wouldn't mind doing a photo special with no. 20 - but if I'm going to put that much effort in, it will be much nearer to Lizard Head than Orbisonia ;)
