Kelly, 0-6-0 tank locomotive No.10 used to operate at tie plant in Brainerd. It is currently on display in Lum Park. It was originally built in 1896 as a class L-4 0-6-0 switcher for the St. Paul & Duluth R.R. (absorbed into the NP in 1901).

Well...this is interesting. According to E-Bay, the locomotive has been sold to a bidder located in Chisago City, MN for $5000.00. The bidder has used the name Iron Horse Enterprises, Inc. in the past, but I'm relatively sure this isn't Ross Rowland.

If I find out any more I'll pass it along.

Sounds like that would be the Ironhorse Central Railroad Museum in Chisago City. Their collection already includes a number of St. Paul & Duluth artifacts (including an original St.P&D depot), and the old St.P&D/NP Taylors Falls branch ran right through Chisago City, so a genuine St. Paul & Duluth steam locomotive certainly would be a perfect fit for them. Here's a link to the museum's website: http://www.ironhorsecentral.com/

Here's a shot of sister engine 928 (no. 10 was formerly 927 before being rebuilt as a shop switcher, originally St.P&D no. 71) taken in 1916: http://museumoftherockies.org/photoarc/nixon/nixon-loco/npl-57.html (Museum of the Rockies, Ron V. Nixon collection)

It ain't me. Trust me I don't have any need for a small switch engine to go with my unemployed 4-8-4! I wish them the best of good luck with her and hope they have the resources to give her a good home!

Anyone remember another private rail museum/collection in Minnesota? I believe the principal was named Kerr. They had a consolidation rescued from boiler service in a laundry. It had to be extracted from INSIDE the building.

I think you might be referring to Don Lind out at Annandale, MN

Yes. Kerr was his in-laws. I was childhood friends with his nephew. Lind used to operate a model train exhibit at the Minnesota State Fair, in the race track bleacher stadium. He promoted his museum there as late as the early 1980's.

I guess he was a loner, eccentric, and not interested in cooperating with the successful Minnesota Transportation Musuem.

Does anyone know what the current status of Don Lind's collection is? The last I heard, Don was living at the site.

I plan to drive out there this weekend to get some newer pictures for my website. I'll see what I can find out.
