Just for the record, there will be only FOUR locos in steam at Clarks unless their GE 44 tonner overheats! Climax, Heisler, Baldwin and Porter. The Shay is a basket case and would need massive $$$ to make it run. Railroad Days is September 16 & 17 and is for just the price of general admission! You can't get a better deal than that.

About the trolley cars... Back when I was about 10 years old (making that 1968 or so) family friends brought me to Clarks where I recall seeing the cars. I had always wondered if I was crazy or not for seeing these cars at all.

Lastly, I think that for its size, New Hampshire has more operating steam locos per square mile than anywhere else. Am I right or wrong on this?

The recent Brief about Johnstown Traction #355 being completely restored for the Rockhill Trolley Museum brought to mind a photo I had seen of this car a while back that was taken in 1965 (image below). My question is: what was "White Mountain Traction," and what happened to it? (And while I'm at it, what is the identity of that Boston Type 5 next to #355?) Any info appreciated - thanks! [/url]

Frank, I will ask around my NH circle of friends, this outfit escaped my attention as well. Of note about the N. Woodstock/Lincoln area is a brand new book by Bill Gove "Logging Railroads Along the Pemigewassett River." It covers all the lines except the EB and L which was in his previous volume. Bill is a consumate historian, and if you are interested in northeast logging, check it out. You might also join my Yahoo Group on New England loggers and 3 footers. Rob PS: did you know there are more operable steam locomotives in Lincoln/North Woodstock than in any town north or east of Strasburg? Yep. 5. And all should run this year.

White Mountain Traction was a streetcar display at Clark's Trading Post. It disappeared when the cars became too deteriorated (as streetcars do when displayed outdoors). I do not rememember exactly when the cars were sold off, but I think it was in the early 1980's. The Type 5, the other car in the display, was acquired by the Connecticut Trolley Museum. One source shows its number to be 5777. It was scrapped about 10 years ago after the Museum decided it was beyond repair. The trucks & electrical equipment eventually ended up at the Seashore Trolley Museum.

Indeed Scott, you are right, the 5th steamer in Lincoln is the two-foot Henschel over at Loon Mountain. Rob Scott J. Now don't go and forget about Ed Gilbert's Beaver Brook Transportation Museum. He's got an operating Henschel as well -- former Edaville #6. Although I believe they only steam her up at Christmas...
