| Post subject: | Wilmington & Western Continues rebuilding.... |
Last weekend (9/3/06), the W&W reached another milestone when their regular excursion train with 4-4-0 #98 leading a 4 car train, crossed the Hercules Trestle (7A) with about 120 passengers on board. This bridge, rebuilt from the ground up, didn't open up too much in the way of milage (0.6 of a mile) but is evidence of the continued efforts by the Railroad, it's volunteers, it's donors and contributors and the contractor, R.E. Pierson of Woodstown NJ, to get the line back into full operations. It is expected that the two bridges at Wooddale, (8A & 8B) will be completed sometime in November of this year. This will open up the line to Mt Cuba Road, possibly in time for their Christmas Trains. When the Mt Cuba bridges (10A & 10B) are completed, this will leave only the repairs to the Ashland Truss bridge (11A), now the only remaining B&O built bridge now on the line and the complete rebuild of the famous "S" tresle (12B) to be completed before the first train operates into "Downtown" Hockessin. |
