I don't hear too much about this engine anymore,,,,but is the pacific still running,,,,or did she run out of tube time.....thanks Pat

It operated on selected weekends in 2005. I believe it has been out of service this year to get its cylinders bored. I don't know if it's back in service yet.

Last I heard she should be ready to go next year.

The KRM has put a lot of time and money into her the past 10 or so years, including a nearly new firebox, new drypipe, front and rear tube sheets, backhead, mostly new staybolts, superheaters and tender bottom, just to name some things.

Sounds like the whole boiler has been replaced aside from the shell. She is a pretty engine.

I had the pleasure of visiting KRM in Oct of last year. In my opinion, its one of those "just right" railroad experiences. That is, recreating a specific railroad on a specific line in a specific time frame. Watching the L&N 152 pass through Kentucky pastures with a matched train at a decent clip, you could really get a feel for an L&N branchline back in the 40's.

There are a few tourist railroads that do this very well, the Railroad Museum of New England comes to mind. In talking with Mr Pincus last year, I got a good overview of what they had planned, for example picking up mail, dropping off milk and so on. The "rolling museum" concept at its finest.
