WRC has posted on their website an update to their evaluation of the "problem" at Durango --describing their observations, testing, and collection of data for analysis. Formal presentation of the results will be in October. http://wasatch-rr-contractors.com/blog/?page_id=79 sc 'doc' lewis |

Interesting direction - John has started off documenting the characteristics found running out on the road while the problem is sitting still in the yard. Logically, this must be aiming towards adoption of some technological changes that D&S can make good use of, given their intensive operating strategy, and with solid fuels. Hats off, John - we can all learn a lot from your process. dave |

| Post subject: | Where does D&S get its coal now? |
I may have asked this before, but don't remember. The D&RGW used to get its coal (by truck) primarily from the King Cole mine near Hesperus, on the former RGS route, at least after the line to Alamosa was abandoned. King Cole was run by a feisty woman who would not let federal mine inspectors into her mine, but did allow state inspectors. In the 1970s, according to a national TV report I saw, coal was going for about six dollars a ton. Does D&S still use the same source, or another? |

The report says overfire jets had been installed in the past and discontinued. Can you tell us about this? |
