This may be obvious to others, but not to me. What did the World Trade Center attack have to do with postponing the railroad's 100th anniversay celebration?

Why are events that have nothing to do with the terrorist attack being cancelled or postponed? It appears to me that the terrorists accomplished their goal in temporarily paralyzing the U.S.

A few more attacks like the Sept. 11 and we will voluntarily shut down our country. They don't need aircraft carriers, armies, tanks. Shrewd man that Bin Laden.

Sorry for the off topic post fellas.

While I agree with some of what you say, I think the postponement of certain events is inevitable.
With over 6000 missing, and presumed by many to be lost forever, almost everyone knows someone directly connected to this tragedy.
I personally knew one victim in each of the planes that struck the towers. And I have a friend who lost an uncle in the south tower. I live in the northeast, but have a friend in Los Angeles who lost a relative in the south tower.
Almost everyone you talk to has some connection to this. So I for one am not surprised by the cancellation of certain events. There are many people out there still wondering what happened to their friends or family members.

Post subject: Biggest problem is people not traveling

I agree that where possible we should keep our lives going on. But a number of people are not traveling by plane, it may be the economy, or it may be fear of what may happen, or both.

I was just to the 21st annual narrow gauge convention in Salt Lake City. On the second or third day I stopped by the registration table to find out how people were attending. I was told a figure of about 760 people.

This sounds good, but based upon passed conventions the host committee was expecting a figure like 1100 to 1200 people. Past expereince was that as may as 2/3 would be walk-in registrations. The people did not come.

During the contest awards presentation it was noted that there were many, many more photos of models entered than during the previous years. This was matched by a decrease in the number of actual models entered. The entrants were not wanting to go through the hassles at the security checks or allow the models to travel in their checked luggage.
