The following was posted to the 4L (The Loyal Legion of Logged-on Loggers) Group on Yahoo:

Hi,

There is a big move afoot! The Timber Heritage Assn. (formerly the
Northern Counties Logging Interpretive Assn.) of Eureka, CA has to move
their collection of heavy artifacts (locomotives, cars, donkeys, etc.)
off of the Simpson Timber Co. property at Glendale where it has rested
and accumulated for 21 years. A member has generously made property
available at Fields Landing just south of Eureka. All they have to do is
move this amazing collection of local items. The aim is to keep this
collection intact for the development of a local timber museum.
Everything must be moved! What can't be moved will be sold or scrapped!
Anybody that can provide money, equipment or labor please contact them at
PO Box 6399, Eureka, CA 95502 or call their president, Marcus Brown, at
1-707-822-2906.

Besides the six steam locomotives [listed in Steamlocomotive.com], what equipment/rolling-stock do they have?

I am afraid I cannot help you with non-steam items; but can tell you they also have 10 steam donkeys/hoisting engines, and a pile driver as well. A bunch of iron, to be moved in a short period of time.

Here is what my memory tells me they had, from the time I lived in the area and was involved with the group...

Hammond Lumber #15- Baldwin 2-8-2
Hammond Lumber #33- 3-truck Shay
Arcata & Mad River #7- 2-truck Shay
Pacific Lumber Company #29- Baldwin 2-6-2
Bear Harbor Lumber #2- Baldwin 2-4-2T
U.S. Plywood diesel switcher- rebuilt from a Heisler
Privately owned 2-truck Heisler

20 (or so) Pacific Lumber Company log flats
Pacific Lumber Company caboose
Union Pacific boxcar
Arcata & Mad River ballast cart
Another wood caboose?
Complete steam powered sawmill
Whole lot of other stuff

All of the equipment was stored off rail except for the locomotives (except for the Bear Harbor #2) the UP box, and about three of the Palco log cars.

Here's the e-mailed notice of the move - they need as many willing hands as they can find, right now- the date is set and they have a destination.

"We need volunteers on Saturday, October 7, beginning at 9:30 AM at our Glendale site to help prepare and load artifacts on trucks for movement. Please call Mike Kellogg for directions or to answer any questions, (707) 443-2957. We need specific help in moving our steam locomotives.

The Timber Heritage Association has begun moving artifacts from our Glendale storage yard to Woody Murphy's Fields Landing location. We have been asked by the new and current owner to move out of the Glendale site. Woody has generously offered temporary storage at his business location, and is providing us truck support and trailers to load and move.

Here are just two projects...

Dolbeer and Carson Caboose: Prepare car for move. Stabilize lower side wood beam. Cross brace wood roof supports and walls. Remove cupola.

Dismantle two damaged Pacific Lumber wood log cars. Remove metal parts.

Note: these artifacts that represent the Humboldt County timber heritage and railroad industry. They include the Lucchesi Sawmill, Dolbeer steam donkeys, steam locomotives, and a diesel locomotive, an early diesel yarder, logging cars, cabooses, rail maintenance and repair cars, drag saws, lathes, locomotive and rail car parts and tools, and other miscellaneous equipment. These are the kinds of things that represent the technology introduced in Humboldt County, which resulted in lumber made available to the US as it grew and built up in the 19th and 20th Centuries. Many of the items here do not exist in any form anywhere else.

There are irreplaceable parts and tools for the maintenance and repair of logging equipment and steam locomotives that ran on local logging or commercial railroads. There are arch bars and a restored operating Caterpillar D8 used in the early 20th century. There is an operational, gasoline-engine powered, Arcata & Mad River Railroad track maintenance vehicle (speeder).

The THA is working hard to preserve these historic artifacts so that future generations might some day be able to view them, and see them in operation in a museum. This together with a tourist and excursion train using a steam locomotive and other historic equipment could be an enormous draw for tourists.

VP, Timber Heritage Association"

Here's the equipment roster website:

If you're in the northern CA area, and can spare a day, this is the official call to arms, guys.

The privately owned Heisler is former Bluestone Mining #2.
It has been moved to the Roots of Motive Power in Willits, CA and has been restored to operation.

Not to be forgotten, ex Sugar Pine Lumber Co. 2-8-2T #4 also known as #37.

While this loco has yet to leave Delaware for its' rebuild at the Strasburg Railroad, it does count on the list of equipment they own.
