This was just posted on another group, I just want to spread the word--it would be a crime to lose a Skinner Uniflow! And a loss to lose another RR Tugboat.

I have herd from a vary reliable source that the ATSF steam tug Edward J
Engle is going to Mexico to be scraped vary soon unless somebody wants it
the tug is currently in Oakland. The Engle was built in 1945 for the ATSF
and has a vary art deco look to it. When it was built it was painted in red
war bonit it is 150ft and has a Skinner uni-flow triple expansion steam
engine in it. I talked to the guy who owns the tug yesterday and he is
willing to give it away to anybody who wants it. I checked the boat out
yesterday and the engine room is vary complete and it would be a shame if it
got scraped. If anybody has any ideas or can help in anyway please give me a

Maybe Ted could make some room at his dock until a better solution could be found? Sounds like she is better off then Eppleton Hall.

"Checked my references and this IS NOT A COMPOUND ENGINE!. It is in fact a Skinner Uniflow though. The Uniflow is either run in Uniflow mode or in Contra-flow mode but it is not made to exhaust into its own cylinders. It either goes to a condenser or to atmosphere.

The tug was renamed "Respect" some years ago. In an unofficial visit to the tug in April of 2005 it was reported listing and sitting in the mud. While the machinery is intact it would take a million to make it run again. That is if it still has a bottom. So the old saying goes. "A boat is a hole in the ocean that you throw money into"."
