I see we're (apparently) still stuck with those confounded 50-star flags all over the M-1 and trains....... but wait, did someone cut them down off of the 17?

While at the EBT Fall Spectacular, I noticed the "Aughwick" coach in the big building at the trolley museum. I had seen this car before and forgotten about it. What is the story of this car? I appears to me to be a replica that has never gotten finished.

Apparently at one point years ago Kovalchick Salvage acquired a number of 3-foot-gauge amusement park railroad open cars, apparently Crown Metal Products products similar in appearance to the Strasburg's famous "Hello Dolly" open car. The bodies of the cars (three, four, or five) have been loitering around some of the EBT sheds for years now; I believe that replica--which I last saw in a Railways to Yesteryear back building, as I recall--was indeed an unfinished project built atop one of those frames. As an aside, I know that the white benches that were commonly placed upon some of the flat cars used on the Fall Spectacular "freight train" in the past came off of these open cars.

Maybe Chris Coleman can step in and correct all my brash assumptions?

There are three of these cars at the EBT and one at Hesston. They are from Carowinds in SC. They were D&RG flats before that, reportedly SG then set on NG andrews trucks for NG service. Two have been in the Car Shop since they arrived. The budget to convert the three cars into replica pasenger cars was spent getting the Aughwick as far as it is. Most of the benches did get moved onto the Shade Gap Picnic Train flatcars. There are still some on the cars in the Car Shop. The Aughwick spent most if its time in the Paint Shop until it was leased to the FEBT. It now is in Car Barn One most of the time.

Just to clear up the ambiguous referent, FEBT leased the Paint Shop, not the Aughwick.

Also, I'd like to point out from the photo that the understated flatcar (sans benches and in original lettering style) is the one that many visitors are familiar with as the deckless flatcar on the coaling station track with the trees growing through it. It was returned to service this summer. Also looking much better (if not yet operable) is the unique 4-bay hopper, which was also retrieved, painted, and posed behind loco #17 on static display.
