Folks,

I have finished restoration on a PRR F30d flatcar. I have also uploaded pages to my website of the whole restoration process. I hope that this info could help you with any of your restoration projects. If anyone have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Enjoy,

Nice job Scott and thanks for the photos. We just took delivery of a PRR F30A which we plan to restore in the spring.

Thanks

nice job!

The Livonia, Avon & Lakeville RR in NY state still has a PRR flatcar in use in MOW service.

This is really an eclectic side of the hobby! I'm delighted to learn of somebody whose love of railroading extends to individual freight car restorations! Certainly, this is a major contribution with out of pocket expenses running so deeply. What to do with the finished cars? Lease them? Run them? Plant flowers in them? Not a bad activity at all, just, well, very different!
Cool stuff!

You have never been to Thomaston, CT, have you?

RMNE has a long freight train of restored 30s-40s-50s-era freight cars. Boxcars are used for storage (nature abhors an empty boxcar), hoppers for ballast use, a New Haven flat is loaded with ties, and another NH flat carries two EMD 567C engines and main generators, etc. One B&M outside-braced 1930 boxcar is set up as a walk-in sandblast room.

RMNE has been restoring freight cars since the early 1980s. A "photo freight" on the Naugy is no less than 8 cars, and soon will be 12-14+ cars.

What is the status of the former LIRR FA unit? What are teh plans on it, and when will those plans move forward?

This is an interesting website. However, it's not clear who, or what entity, actually owns these freight cars and is financing the restorations. Could you clue us in a bit more?

Scott will correct me if I am wrong, but I beleive the cars are owned by Pennsy Railcar Restorations LLC, a preservation and restoration consulting business owned and operated by Scott Kwiatkowski.

Erik,

You are correct. The equipment belongs to PRR LLC.

We plan to use the flat car for displays, Santa, photo freights or whatever else we can come up with.

Thanks for all the nice replys, it was a fun project.

Scott
