Pure nostalgia here, from my adolescent years. Colorado & Southern 2-8-2 809 headed down Mason Street, Fort Collins, Colorado in late-1958. Modern power still uses the same street-running route, to the city's chagrin, but it's just not the same. The 809 was one of six heavy USRA Mikados purchased from the parent Burlington in 1957. They were only used for one sugar campaign each, with 804, 805 and 806 operating in 1957-58 (805 as the Cheyenne yard switcher) and 807 and 809 used in 1958-59. There was to be an 808, but it had boiler problems and was used for parts instead. The presious CB&Q numbers were 5500, 5506, 5507, 5508, 5509 and 5514, respectively. All were shipped from Denver to Houston, Texas for scrap in early-1961.
