The repainting of the Illinois Railway Museum's U30C, BN 5383, is just about complete except for nose striping and lettering. Link to photo: http://www.irm.org/gallery/5383painting/abv Note that the diesel behind it is another Burlington unit, CB&Q 9255, which has been repainted in an older paint scheme. BN 5383 stands to be the fourth diesel repaint to be completed by IRM in 2006, following CB&Q 9255, C&NW 411 and Joy Manufacturing 2. |

The paint job looks great! I'd be interested in the preperation procedure, material used and how you plan to do the lettering. Does IRM have an indoor paint shop? |

We do not have an indoor paint shop. The entire locomotive was needle chipped, wire brushed and/or cleaned nearly to white metal. A lot of metal patches and repairs, sanding, etc. After priming I believe the top coats were custom color mixed Centari. Maybe someone on that project can add details, corrections. Much of the lettering will be custom vinyl as it was originally. Bob Kutella |
