Dave - Are traveling by Amtrak? I know a good number of people are. The TVRM contingent is climbing aboard #5 in Chicago on Saturday morning. Uncle Al has already departed for DC where he will board #29 to meet us in Chicago on Saturday. This is the only time I know of when Al Phillips will ride behind a diesel. Trust me, he will be as far to the rear of the train that he can get. |

Mark, we'll miss you in Chicago. We might see Linn and Kelly in the Metropolitan Lounge on Sunday. Karen, Megan and I changed our plans. We get on the Bluewater in Battle Creek for the short trip to Chicago. There we'll board the Portland section of the Empire Builder, arriving Portland 10:15 Tuesday morning. We'll have 4 hours in Portland, then board the Coast Starlight to Sacramento, scheduled arrival 6:25 Wenesday morning. After the convention we get back on the Coast Starlight to continue south to LA. We have one night in LA, then take the Southwest Chief to Chicago. If all goes well we'll be home late on Thursday the 16th. Looking forward to the trip, and seeing everyone at the Convention! |

WOW! I just checked out the AMTRAK schedules between SF and Sac, cheap and frequent. $36 round trip. Parking in town costs more! Anybody wants a really interesting day trip, can take an early train to SF, get off right at Fisherman's Wharf (connecting AmBus) and tour Ted's Maritime Museum. Local transit to tour the Exploratorium, back to the Ferry Building, and afternoon bus/train back to Sac. Right civilized, for the edge of the country. dave |
