Irony. We owe the Mexicans and Canadians a huge debt for preserving the FM's of a wide variety, which we in the states allowed to slip into oblivion. There is an FM H16-44 mounted on a mountainside as an advertisement or memorial somewhere in Mexico. I wonder if it could be purchased and restored to a U.S. road replica? The Reading guys have their work cut out to rebuild a Trainmaster from a slug.

Pardon my ignorance, but were any of these purchased as used locomotives from U.S. roads, or were they all "built new" for Mexican ones?

Don't forget the PA's --- the only reason we have the four that survive is because of Mexico. As i recall, didn't they also save a AN FT A &B, or they operated VERY late at least?

Wishing I were in Sacramento, and not finishing a local history right now................

Check Bob's "Puebla Museum Photos" posting, it has a link to at least an FT A unit. Not personally aware of a B unit.

Second Diesel Spotter's Guide indicates 23 H16-44's and 2 H12-44's were built new for Mexican railroads, presumably all for Ch.deP.

The FT set was from the Northern Pacific originally. The A unit was rebuilt with a newer prime mover and (I think) newer controls, but the B unit was not. Several years ago, it was still stored at Benjamin Hill, but I haven't heard anything about it lately.

According to Boyd's Fairbanks Locomotives in Color, CH-P purchased several former DL&W and NYC F-Ms. These purchases included at least two DL&W Trainmasters.

I have seen no definitive information on their respective dispositions, but it appears highly unlikely that any survived.
