If recall correctly, a who comes to the shows at the CT Antique Machinery Assn. has roughly the same thing in the back of a deuce and a half. |

I wish I had a photo to share of the mobile machine shops some of the GE srvice centers have on hand. They are contained within a half size sea container. |

Historical note: In early New Hope & Ivyland days about 1972, the guys were working on the steam loco when it started to snow. So, they moved it into the New Hope, Pa. engine house to get out of the weather, even though the doors weren't hung yet. Actually, the roof wasn't built back then, either! |

In 1880s narrow gauge railroading the Carter Brothers did several jobs before settling in Newark, CA to work on mostly the South Pacific Coast Railway. In modern times there was a maritime parallel to what you discribe. The Bay, Ship & Yacht Corporation started without any property of their own. They moved around from job to job before settling in Alameda, California. Their best know "road job" was building the replica of the USS Niagara now sailing out of the USS Niagara Museum at Erie, Pennsylvania. Ted Miles |

I think we have several of these sitting on flatcars in the marshalling yard here right now. Or at least did last week. They sold a bunch of these on Gov Liquidation out of the DRMO yard here in Port Hueneme within the last year. Would look to be really crowded to work in one though. Greg |

My father used something along these similar lines (but probably an earlier model) when he served in the Army in a Corps of Engineers Batallion in South Korea. They would pack up the entire battalion and head for the DMZ to build bridges and repair other infrastructure. Depending on the price, this would be a cost effective way to have a machine shop. At the very worst, you may be able to buy it for just the machinery inside, then scrap the trailer. |
