No, I haven’t forgotten the SLG&W roster. I have been busy and haven’t tracked down the answers to a couple of simple questions.

But, in the meantime.

I believe that Salt Lake, Garfield & Western D.S.1 is the locomotive that was in it’s bicentennial paint the longest.

The D.S.1 was painted in Bicentennial colors in 1975 and I just ran across a photo of the D.S.1 in the process of being repainted, in October 2006, back to New York, Ontario & Western number 105. That is thirty-one years! Can any other bicentennial locomotive top that?

Incidentally, other red, white and blue SLG&W locomotives are NOT Bicentennial locomotives. Those paint jobs were only inspired by D.S.1 and never intended to be part of the Bicentennial celebration.

D&H RS3u 1976 is still wearing her Bicentennial colors right now.
She has never been repainted, and likely wont be repainted anytime soon.
She is still operating, with the Tioga Central Railroad in Wellsboro, PA.

I don't think we can say that the RS3u is in its original paint scheme. It appears it has had a few "touch-ups" over the years. -- Ray

We have the 44 ton DS.2 at the Western Railway Museum.

What can you tell me about the paint scheme on that engine? How long was it in use on the SLG&W?

Or do we need to back date that scheme when it gets painted?

And it is not likely to happen for a while, but the engine needs to be protected. Lots of fadedred paint there.

As far as I know, SLG&W D.S.2 has been green with gold stripes since 1951 so, if I am correct, the paint still on the locomotive is the 1951 paint.

From the picture I have seen while it was on the Adirondack Scenic Railroad, until repainted this year, 2006, SLG&W D.S.1 retained most of the Bicentennial decorations – stars, eagles, flags, etc. Admittedly, it was looking rough with paint patches and rust, but most of the 1975 paint and decoration was still there.

D&H RS3u 1976 seems to have retained its basic Bicentennial colors but lost the Bicentennial decorations.

In my opinion, D&H RS3u 1976 was no longer in Bicentennial paint when the decorations were lost.

Any other candidates? Obviously, there will be more discussion.
