Post subject:  Wood Boxcars Available!

Today I learned that two wood boxcars (bodies really) are or soon will be available in Olathe, KS. They have been built into a barn that is estimated to date from the 1920's, so there is a possibility that these may be really old, from the late 1800's. Since they have been part of the barn, they have been at least partly protected from the full effects of outdoor exposure. The barn is slated to be dismantled in the near future and access would be free and clear.

The cars have some numbers visible but perhaps no reporting marks and most likely are double sheathed wood frame cars. Since the BNSF runs through there there is probably an even chance they could be ATSF cars.
I have not seen them in person or in pic, but this may be of interest to some of you, even if only to dismantle them for parts, should the bodies prove to be too far gone.

Contact Laura Daugherty in Olathe at ldaugherty@olatheks.org with questions, etc. I have no interest in these other than to pass the information.
