Hello everyone. I was just looking at Doyle McCormack's PA-1 #190 site, and was wondering... is there a projected date the #190 will return to service? The last update was January 2006. I know I'm kind of out of the loop, so if she's complete and I just haven't realized this, my apologies. Also, I'm not complaining about the pace, just curious as to how close she is to being done. I'm a steam guy, but I have to admit the #190 is looking sharp! Thanks in advance for the info. Happy Thanksgiving. Seth

I've wondered about the progress of #190 myself. It seems like Doyle's been playing things pretty close to the vest since Brooklyn Roundhouse was broken into and #190 vandalized earlier this year. Cursed wire thieves!

Last I've heard is that the 190 was turned around earlier this year and work has begun on the fireman's side panels and related bodywork.

"Smokebox" should be able to chime in and provide an further update, as I haven't been able to make it down this year, so I've been a little out of the loop regarding somethings.

While not Doyle's locomotive, what is the status of the "little sister", ex-LIRR, ex-BN, ex-SP&S, FA1 outside the roundhouse?

Oh dear....I must have missed that bit of news.....What exactly did the vandals do, and were they caught?

As far as the break in, a number of traction motor cables were stolen, and some were cut from the engine. One alledged perpetrator has been arrested.

Progress on the 190 to this point;

Panels on both sides are in place, and most of the body work is done. One side is lettered, and painted.

Some hatches for the roof have to be made, as do the grilles on the sides. Doors need to be fabricated, and glass installed.

The prime mover has had a power assembly replaced, and two heads need to be installed. the air compressor and cooling fan drive need to be mounted.

The trucks have been needle gunned and one side painted

A lot of needle gunning and painting has been done inside of the carbody, and the steam generator water tanks have been converted to storage compartments. The metal floors have had areas replaced.

Traction motor assemblies need to be installed, along with brake piping and rigging.

Assorted wiring and plumbing is still to be done.

The lights and horn work, and, if you stand on the engineer's side, it looks like a completed locomotive.

Much of Doyle's time is spent taking care of the 4449, and working on his F7 and RSD 5, so work proceeds in fits and spurts, though several dedicated volunteers are continually found at work on the unit. A lot of other work has been done, and a list would be quite long, as this was a completely gutted derelict when acquired.

A rough estimate of the time until completion would be 1 to 2 years.
