1225 fireup pics

After nearly a year, it is once again under steam. TOday was the first fireup.

The photos are pretty much self-explanatory.

I took the shots.

I went a little overboard with the vignetting. I was trying to hide some of the junk in the backgrounds, while really bringing out the focal points, so I admit I went overboard with it.

No sweat, Huckleberry! The detail and lighting is still pretty smoking. The vinette demands you look at the nuts and bolts ;)

What kind of camera are you wielding? Things are pretty crisp.

For these, I was using a Canon 20d with some Canon 'L' glass.

The gauge shots were taken with the Canon 580ex flash bounced off the cab roof, with smoke in the cab, to provide the dark and sweaty look to the pics.

Keep going overboard. The photos are great. I have got to get to MI and see this beast. Do they still do their engineer for an hour program? I would like to run a big engine once. Fifty feet will do but I would just like to say I have done it.

Come on down to Fort Wayne for a spell, John...We're hosting Throttle Time on December 2nd, which is a variant on the Engineer for an Hour Program. Some times are still open!

We have not done Engineer for an Hour for a couple of years. One thing we do is that all the regular volunteers have the opertunity to run the engines inside our compound when the engines are fired-up. It is one of the perks of being a regular volunteer.

I would love to take you up on the offer but elder care and the railroad have my feet firmly nailed to NC. I will be working building a switch into a new industry for the A&R Dec. 2. Someday, hopefully, I will be able to take you up on the offer.

Great shots!

I think the vignette really picks up the feeling and mood, especially of those shots inside the cab. Thinking outside the box, it's what good railroad photography is all about.

I'm going to have and try doing something like this; What lens were you using?
