Saw this on the RRs of York discussion group:

"A group of volunteers is making sure that people who use the Bike & Hike Trail from Cockeysville to Pennsylvania remember they are on an old railroad bed. The volunteers received a grant from REI of Timonium and held a raffle to raise money to restore electric traffic control signals that were first used by the Northern Central Railroad in the 1930s. ... "

Let's see if I can translate that article from "unknowledgeable reporter" to "knowledgeable railroad termanology"

I would assume the "discs with white lights" would be position light signals?

Either way...that is actually a nice idea to fix some of them up to cycle through the aspects. Kudos to whoever came up with the idea!

There is at least one original signal preserved on a section of the Illinois Terminal east of Peoria, near the top of Caldwell Hill. (Now a bike trail) I do not believe it is illuminated, but the idea has been done before.
