Isn't it great to see live, big steam? The 765 folks are owed a huge thanks for their unbelievable efforts. The world needs more live steam locomotives. The jet in the last shot made an interesting comparison between what was gained and lost in the transition years of 1950 to 1965. |

I intentionally left the Jet in the photo, I saw it coming and decided to leave it in the photo to add to it One of my favorite 765 shots from yesterday http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=167257 |

I haven't kept up with this project, but just wondering if the Ft. Wayne group plans on offering engineer experience classes? It would seem to be a good way to help pay for the rebuild with minimal wear and tear on the locomotive if details could be worked out and the engine was fired up anyway. |

VERY nice shots! As for the jet, it would take about 15 seconds in Photoshop to get rid of it. However, I kind of like it there. Old vs. new, so to speak. |

I see that 765 is equipped with a 26L brake. Was this installed during the most recent rebuild, or a previous modification during her first excursion career? She was equipped with what originally, an 8 or 14? |

The NKP S-class originally had 6-ET brake schedules. 759 ran that way for years, and is still so equipped. Parts and servicing for 6-ET (or 14-EL, the diesel switcher version of 6) equipment is not hard to come by; I wonder why the change? The 8-ET equipment is apparently difficult to support, but I seem to recall that UP continues to use it on 3985 and 844. Or did, until recently. |

Although 6-ET can still be supported 26L is even easier. The self-lapping feature is also nice on the 26L. Don C. |

The 26 stand was installed during the 1970s rebuild. JAC |

We converted to the 26L system in "98 when NJT installed the Union Switch&Signal cab signal-ats-event recorder system as the Union Swtch folks said the microprocessor soft wear was programmed for that and the fact that 26 parts were universally available. It's a nice system but I still prefer the "feel" of the old #6! Guess it's "old dogs new tricks??"! Ross Rowland |
