This note goes out to all of my young friends who want to become more involved in the steam industry and make a buck while at it.

First off, to all of you that attended TRAIN/ARM 2006 it was good to see you. There were a number of young guys and gals there from a number of roads. It is nice to see new and young faces. For those of you who thought about coming but did not……you need to consider attending next year in Pennsylvania. It will be yet another good show!

During the TRAIN board meeting there was a subject of discussion held in regard to allowing young people to participate. For a number of years now I have been participating as a spectator at TRAIN Board meetings as well as Engineering Standards Committee meetings. These “old heads” as we call them want to hear from us and are willing to allow us to participate. The key is; we need to show up! TRAIN is looking for people who want to help on different committees. If you want to become involved, here is your chance. Go to the www.TRAININC.org for more info.

Now, for those of you looking to make a buck, go to the classifieds page on RYPN. You will see that there are a number of posting for jobs in the industry. Such RR’s as the Strasburg, Nevada Northern and others have posted jobs in the last year. Other lines such as the Grand Canyon and the Durango and Silverton have also hired young guys. The opportunities are out there, go look at the classifieds page……..you may be surprised what types of stuff you can find if you look.

See you aroud,

John E. Rmmasch

Thanks for the reminder, John. I was hoping someone who had been at TRAIN would bring this up. I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to get out there. Pesky school does get in the way sometimes.

The question is, once we're a part of TRAIN, where do WE go from here, John? I've a few ideas, and I know our friends do too.

If you haven't taken the time to reveiw the flimsies recently please do so. The article on "If the Shop Could Talk" explains it all. Jared is 18, Chris 21, Jason 24, Jeremy not much older. We will be gearing up for the 2007 season in January or so. Position opennigs are posted in the classified section of RYPN.

Our big project is the rebuild of locomotive 81 a 2-8-0, plus the odd jobs that are needed to keep steam running.
