Is this engine still rusting away by the Gulf in New Orleans? Did Katrina completely destroy her? What is her status? Thanks.

My understanding is that she is fine, but is still in the same spot. Hurricane Katrina did no damage to it.

Thanks for your response. I saw under steam in Ft. Worth during her break in on the Ft. Worth and Western Railroad. She was a beautiful engine. I was sadened to see that she was more or less abandoned after going through a rebuild and return to service. Are there any recent pics of her floating around?

Hard to get pics of her under a tarp..........1744 is safe and for sale,but reading the price tag gave me a nosebleed.......

The cost of restoring a locomotive is not necessarily reflected in its subesequent fair market value. Pricing it according to "what I have in it" is pretty much impossible.

The only exceptions, based on secondhand information about asking price, would be the newly rebuilt QJs, which option expires in about 2.5 days if memory serves. If you want a real bargain, call Henry Posner now.

No, I have no financial interest in his company. To be self-serving I'd encourage more park hulk rebuilding by myself at high expense, but likely lower than anybody else would be willing to try (shameless self-promotion complete).

If you need to recover your cost you must have the locomotive earn it back in revenue service - there is no other option. It is also interesting to consider how much less 1744 is worth as each additional day that slips by costs one less chance to recover the cost of its original in-service clock time. Anybody feel like amortizing that?

Is there a link to a website that has her listed for sale? I am scared to see what they want for an engine that is rusting away on the Gulf. Too bad the tube time is wasting...
