Post subject:  Lexington depot question

This unique depot has always been a New England classic, where B&M Moguls once blackened the white paint while pulling commuter trains. I am curious why the rail line was allowed to become the Minuteman Trail instead of retaining it for commuter use? This seems odd, given the MBTA's investment in much harder projects like the rebuilt Greenbush line.
How much effort was put into keeping it as a rail line?

It was a long time ago. Can you believe 30 years? Then everyone was pessimistic on the economic growth of urban Boston. They used to call Downtown Crossing "Deadly Station". No one could have predicted the economic growth of Boston, the affluence, the rising property values, and the rebirth of downtown.
