The former M&NJ #11 2-6-0 got loaded on Monday and left Wednesday for her trip south.

The link has some excellent photos.

I hope this works out well. Of course, the people at the M&NJ were going to make it run also. As long as the parts don't get lost in the process, it should be ok. There are some in the Finger Lakes region who would like to see it return to Hammondsport. Note the old enginehouse in this photo:

What stories it might tell if it could talk.. Wasn't the road dieselized after the Middletown & Unionville became the M&NJ?

Bob,

The enginehouse in the photos was built for the Empire State Railway Museum to store their steam engine while there. So it is a 1960s vintage. There was 'stuff' in there from this engine, perhaps the tender, but I was never in that enginehouse to confirm. The tender was not in any of the other stalls in the new engine house or in the engineshed next to the M&NJ headquarters (station). The one adjacent to the station is the original shed for the motorcar they ran back in the 1930s(?) and it now stores the lone working diesel.

The steamer was stored in the right bay of the new(er) two stall enginehouse in the background of that same photo. The photos of the engine in the house show that the stall was considerably cleaned up prior to pulling the engine out. It was still packed full of tools, parts, speeders, brush cutters and other supplies when I was last there about 8-9 months ago.

The left bay of the new enginehouse stored the other M&NJ diesel which is painted in the old M&U black scheme. It has been OOS for many years. Supposedly the RR will restore the unit to service when the need arrives.

The line was dieselized while it was still the Middletown & Unionville. The name was changed to Middletown & New Jersey when the most recent owners (until 2006) bought the line in 1962.
