Bob:

One of the surviving "Sports Model" Baldwin 2-10-0's. Sister to Great Western Decapod #90 at Strasburg. Sure would like to see 401 returned to service someday but I am sure that is not going to happen at Mid-Continent as they work to get a couple of their other steamers back in operation. I do believe she was given a coat of paint a few years ago but not sure how she looks today.

I too would like to see her worked on. If I win the lottery that will be one engine that will be worked on.

At the moment she has not been painted. I am hopeful that it will be next year, but I have not heard anything concrete. MC has painted the GB&W consolidation, Copper Range #29 and the Goodman Lumber Co shay, and the Soo Line 4-6-0. All these engines {as well as the #401} are on display by the depot. I think the ex UP rotary is next in line, but hopefully the #401 will be done too. The cosmetic jobs that the other equipment has had done was long over due as far as sprucing up the area in front of the depot. The tourists just flock to the newly painted equipment to take pictures. With the equipment outside it is hard to tell how long the paint jobs will look good, but to the untrained eye they look like they could run tomorrow. The car shop guys have also spuced up quite a few cars in the last few years. As well as finished some major restorations. Now if we could just get a couple of steam engines put back together soon.........
Regards, John.

John-

Has MC ever done a mechanical evaluation of her?
