For the past few days i have been playing host to family members holding an early solstice-related holiday series of celebrations (insert your appropriate faith-based title here). My mother will actually be in Fiji from late December through Gregorian New Years, so we wanted to do something very special for her.

Timing - SPAMALOT opened in Charlotte last night.

I had wondered if Pythonesque humor would work for a late 70s lady with no previous exposure, but she had a ball - along with the rest of the very diverse audience.

Point being, if any of you have a chance to see the production, please don't miss it. It is completely silly, but hilarious and fast-paced - very entertaining. Almost not like having to do a cultural thing at all, completely painless.

And now back to Railway Preservation.

Turkey eating competition, and airing of grievances has never been unusual in my family. Some grievances go back for generations.

You know, Dave, there are just some things that can't be improved upon, and "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" is one of them. Strange women lying on their backs in ponds handing out swords in some farcical aquatic ceremony ... that's no basis for a musical.

Now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

Sorry, but I must add one of my favorites as well...

“And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out! Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.”

I'm not yet dead!

She's got HUUUUUUUUUUGE tracts of land.

Some call me..........Tim.

Apart from the Pythonesque old friends inherent in the script, a lot of humor based on sending up Latin Gregorian chants, other musical styles, and Les Miserables, and other productions of recent years.

What Eric Idle does with Finnish opera is also not to be believed.
