This 4-8-4 in Nashville is now under shelter, with associated bird problems. Numerous photos are here: http://www.ncps-576.org/576/images/large/index.html The locomotive reportedly got a paint job in October 2006, a few months after these photos were taken. |

Visitors now get to "enjoy" canned-in bird screeching sounds while attempting to view the locomotive. Be sure to have earplugs handy! While this helps to keep birds and their associated residue away, it is rather ear piercing to humans. Now that the locomotive is sheltered, it is also curiously unprotected from vandals. The ramps have also been removed so there is no access to view the cab (unless the "do not climb" signage is ignored....and it is because the tenders smells like...well, it smells.) For years the engine was open to the elements and fenced in close proximity (bad for photos) although it did have the ramps so school kids could go up and look through a large plexiglass sheet to see the cab interior. Now the locomotive is covered but not enclosed. Hmm..... |
This 4-8-4 in Nashville is now under shelter, with associated bird problems.
I saw the locomotive in 2004, when the shelter seemed relatively new. The bird goo was building even then.... |

I really think this thread should be in the Railway Pooservation forum. |
