Post subject:  Turntable Question

A question for those of you with access to girder type turntables.

How often are the Bridge Timbers secured to the girder with the hook bolts?

This is being asked because the Connecticut Eastern Railroad Museum in Willimantic Ct is getting ready to purchase and install the timbers onto their Armstrong Turntable. If all goes well the turntable will be active by the end of 2007.

Also the museum is looking for photos, drawings and/or actual turntable staff mounts, so that we can replicate a set for our bridge. The item I am refering to is the cast iron pocket, that was secured to the bridge timbers and recieved the staff used to spin the bridge.

Happy New Year.

Thanks,

Rich,
Give me a call at 814-946-0834 ext. 229 I have blueprints on our bridge that I can make copies of and send to you. I don’t have anything on the pockets though.

Nevada State RR Museum built a new replica of an armstrong table several years ago. Perhaps they have a pattern or drawing for the pocket.
