This MLW-built, wide-cab, narrow gauge diesel was damaged some time ago in a derailment, in which one worker was killed. This was posted recently about it on the Railcritters Yahoo list:

[About 11 AM today I was driving north on West Marginal Way here in
Seattle and saw the battered hulk of White Pass & Yukon #114 setting
next
to the road at the Alaska Marine Terminal. The left side was bashed in
and the trucks were missing. It was not there Wednesday.]

The other two remain, at last report, on the narrow gauge industrial RR at Plaster City, California, with one also badly smashed from accidently running it through the dumping facility there, which would not clear the cab. These were never used by the WP&Y in regular freight service, as they were completed in Montreal at about the time of the WP&Y shutdown, then stored in Quebec for several years before moving to their destinations.

A total of four (4) wide-cab units were built for the White Pass. The industrial operation at Plaster City bought two and then managed to wreck one as noted above. It then bought a third one to replaced the wrecked on. The fourth one eventually made its way up to the White Pass.

The President of the White Pass, Gary Danielson, occasionally posts at the Narrow Gauge Discussion board. In a recent thread about the incident he wrote:

#114 is being rebuilt in Tacoma and should be ready for this season..

The WP&Y 114 is still in Seattle and has now been placed on a flatcar at the AML yard.

Good chance that it will be in town for another week or so. High/Wide and odd loads usually end up sitting at a BNSF yard in Seattle for a few days ( or weeks).

OUCH !!!!
Are we looking at the back end of the engine? Did it get rolled?
I wonder if the shop that repairs this will be able to return it to its original shape?

Yes, this is the rear end of the locomotive in the photograph. I couldn't get a clear shot of the front end without having to trespass, I'll try to get a few more shots later, when it's moved at some point.

The cab appears to be crushed down almost to the level of the nose.
