Post subject:  Fairmonts are perverse. Help please.

I have just finished the third day of lower back stress cranking and trying to fit into those critters with normal size hands and tools. I have a collection of 3 very different types and many interesting spares in several piles. I have one manual that isn't for any car I have, just some of the parts are covered.

One old gang car has the dry cell ignition with wooden buzz box and an 8 HP motor with a C8 carb. One is a SRy alternator retrofit M19 with the more modern buzz box and 5HP 6 stud head. Another is a C of G MR19 with a 5HP 8 bolt head. Both have C5 carbs.

We have finished troubleshooting the ignition systems and are getting strong, reliable spark. The carbs have been gone through and float valves are within tolerance, fuel is getting out the end of the carb into the crankcases. The correct springs are in the correct places.

The fuel seems to stop here and doesn't make it into the cylinders. Throttle valves are open. Cars will run if primed.

Any Fairmont gurus out there please advise. One of our winter projects is our motorcar collection (we have been given a nice A3? with a Hercules we haven't picked up yet also).
